Our Mission Statement

The Palmetto Health Credit Union is a member-owned financial cooperative committed to providing exceptional financial services while respecting individual needs. We strive to exceed our members' expectations by keeping our commitment to their financial health and success.

PHCU Origins

PHCU's roots began with the formation of SC Baptist Hospital Employees' Credit Union in 1963 along with the formation of Richland Memorial Employees' Federal Credit Union in 1972 (previously known as Columbia Hospital which opened in 1967).

In the latter part of the 1990's, SC Baptist Hospital and Richland Memorial Hospital began discussions of merging the two hospitals. The Board of Directors of the two credit unions also began discussions regarding the value of merging the two hospital-based credit unions. In 1999, PHCU began operations with 6,493 members and assets of under $20 million, serving the employees of the newly formed Palmetto Health Hospital later known as Prisma Health, the SC Baptist Convention along with employee family members with offices in Columbia, SC and Easley, SC.

PHCU Today

While PHCU remains strongly affiliated with Prisma Health and the SC Baptist Convention, the Credit Union now also serves individuals who live, work or attend school in Richland County and their relatives as well as a number of medical-based businesses affiliated with Prisma Health and groups associated with the SC Baptist Convention.

PHCU provides a wide variety of standard products and services for its membership including consumer loans and saving options as well as online banking and mobile banking/mobile deposit. Currently PHCU serves approximately 11,200 members with assets of approximately $94 million and loans of $40 million.
